Polska Piechota 1939 / Polish infantry 1939
The photos show a group of Polish soldiers from the period of the September 1939 campaign. Poles were the first to put up an armed resistance to the German aggressor. The Polish army failed to stop the Nazi war machine on its own. Lonely Poland fought despite the fact that it was abandoned by its allies from the west, France and England. Below are some battles that took place during the September campaign:
Battle of Bzura (the biggest battle of the September campaign in 1939)
Battle of Wetki
Battle of Kaluszyn (one of the bloodiest battles in the September campaign)
Battle in Bory Tucholskie (Krojanty - the most famous charge of the Polish cavalry)
Westerplatte and Bitwa pod Wizna (Symbols of heroic defense)
Bitwa pod Mlawa
Defense of the fortress Modlin 1939
Defense of Warsaw 1939
Battle of Kock 1939 (last battle fought with Germany by regular Polish units)
Defense of Hel (last defending Polish outpost, which capitulated on October 2, 1939)
The September campaign was lost. During the fights with Germany, Hitler's ally, the Red Army, entered the eastern territories of the Second Polish Republic. The six-year dark period of the German occupation of Polish lands began. In 1941, the Soviets were driven out by the German army that was attacking Russia. From 1941, the entire territory of the Second Polish Republic was in the clutches of Nazi Germany.
The Polish infantry in the Hat set was armed with:
9 mm wz. 35 "Vis"
7.92 mm wz. 98 "Mauser"
7.92 mm wz. 98a "Mauser"
7.92 mm wz. 98 "Mauser" PWU
7.92 mm wz. 29
7.92 mm wz. 91/98/23 "Mosin"
7.92 mm wz. 91/98/25 "Mosin"
8 mm wz. 1886/93 "Lebel"
8 mm wz. 1916 "Berthier"
8 mm wz. 1895 "Mannlicher"
Rkm 7.92 mm wz. 28 "Browning"
MG 7.92 mm wz. 30 "Browning"
7.92 mm wz. 35 "Kb.Ur."
46 mm wz. 36
There were many more types of small arms used by the Polish army at that time, but they were not included in Hat's set. Riflemen are basically armed with Mauser or wz.29 rifles. It is a pity that none of the other 1:72 scale manufacturers released a set of Polish infantry or cavalry from that period.
