These are pics of my Persian heavy infantry (Hat). The Persian heavy infantry elite troops were called 'the Immortals' by Herodotus. It was an army unit that was kept at a constant strength of 10.000 men and consisted of Persians, Medes and Elamites. They also served as a bodyguard to the emperor. There armament consisted of wicker shields, short spears, bows and arrows, swords or large daggers and scale armor under there clothes. There fighting moral was very high but the heavier armament of the Greek hoplites and Macedonian phalangites with there large shields, helmets, body armor and sarissas gave them more leverage on the battlefield. Time and again the Persian armies were defeated by Alexander's armies who outmaneuvered the Persian troops.
