Here are some pics of my Sassanid levy infantry I recently finished. The Sassanid empire succeeded the Parthians in 224 AD and was the arch-rival of the Roman-Byzantine empire in the Middle East. The Paygan formed most of the Sassanid infantry and were recruited from the peasant population. The Dailamites also served as levy infantry and were famous for their hardiness and fighting skills in close-quarter combat. However the Sassanid cavalry was considered the ‘core’ of the Sassanid army.
