Here are some pics of my Thessalian cavalry. They were Macedon's most valued ally in the battles against the Persian army. They played a crucial role in Alexander's army and were given important tactical responsabilities. The Thessalian (heavy) cavalry's main task was to defend the Macedonian left flank against Persian cavalry attacks. They fought in all of Alexander's major battles at the Granicus river, at Issos and on the planes of Gaugamela. The diamant formation was there preferred cavalry formation because it gave them good manouverability on the battlefield. After Darius defeat they were the only Greek allies who volunteered to accompany Alexander into Central Asia as mercenaries. In Alexander's army the Thessalian unit of 2100 horsemen was the largest non Macedonian cavalry unit.
