Rayevsky Redoubt Diorama
Paul Kachur and Michael Hüttmann, Feb. 2012
This is our reconstruction of the Rayevski Redoubt based on a description from A. Mikaberidze's book "The Battle of Borodino". Map no. XXII shows the deployment of troops during the first French assault on the Rayevsky Redoubt.
This scenario is reconstructed at a physical scale of 1:1000, with six guns standing for the 18 or so in the original redoubt, and units of 1 figure = 10 soldiers.
Just coming up from the ravine in front of the redoubt is the French 30th line infantry, its 5 battalions deployed in a single regimental line. The second line is formed by the 13th light infantry whose 5 battalions follow up in divisional columns. The Hät legeres were augmented by the Guard Foot Chasseurs, Hät's legeres in Bardin uniform and 2 companies of dismounted dragoons in order to complete the 5 battalions of that light regiment. In the background are Lassalle, Ney and Murat gallopping past a company of marines de la garde (converted Hät Brunswickers), and in the Napoleon with his staff and personal guard of chasseurs a cheval.
If you look closely, there are three Napoleons present, two mounted and one dismounted.
Best Regards
