Hi!
Here's the second installment of your new El Cid Muslim Cavalry, the Almoravid Lights. Again, a pleasure to paint. As I said in my previous post I wanted to show the colors of the Muslim warriors while at the same time give a hint to the wear of a campaign. I also wanted my painting to highlight the sculpting, rather than mask it. To do this I used a dark brown primecoat (less stark than black IMHO) and often almost dry brushed over it so the natural folds of the clothes and features of the faces (where there was an uncovered face) as sculpted by your artist were displayed in what I perceive to be a natural way. It is up to the eye of the viewer to be the judge of how I succeeded.
I suppose it goes without saying the sculpting of your figures gets better by leaps and bounds with each new issue. And if I may say again, I am definitely looking forward to the final release of these sets so I can augment my Muslim cavalry. These figures will lend themselves to a number of great poses without even having to resort to a knife. This greatly compensates for only four poses in a set. By the same token as I'll show in an upcoming post, these four sets go well together and with just a box of each one can have a great Muslim cavalry corps.
