1806 Saxon Infantry - IR von Low

Attached are images of a test spue of HaT 8187 painted as the Infantry Regiment von Low. The figures are arranged to show one of the complex drill maneuvers that were the pride of 18th C. Royalist generals. When giving "fire-by-files" the first rank would be rotated to the rear after fireing, so that the front rank was always loaded and ready to give fire. In theory, "fire-by-files" made it possible to maintain a constant rate of fire against the enemy.
In practice, what worked brilliantly on the parade ground was nearly impossible to excute consistently while under fire. The French Revolutionary tactic of shooting officers and NCO's first worked so well because the common soldier in Royalist armies was trained not to think for himself. Even the most finely tuned machine will fail if no one is working the controls.
This is a well concieved kit, with just the right distibution of poses to properly illustrate the subject.
