1/72 BATTLE OF STANDARD (NORTH ALLERTON) - A.D.1138

Hi.
These photos are taken from a wargame that was developed from April to June 2010 inspired by the battle of Standard(Northallerton). In 1138 A.D. the King of Scotland David I tried to put his neice Matilda in the throne of England against the usurper Stephen, Count of Boulogne. He invaded Northern England for the third time but was opposed by Anglo-Norman barons. The contingents and the city militias of York, Beverley, and Ripon were mobilized; they marched under the banners of their patron saints St. Peter, St. John, and St. Wilfred, mounted on a wagon. The scottish were defeated.

These photos show the Anglo-Norman militia and English peasants that try to oppose to the Scottish militia.The Scottish army was a mixture of lowland militia with a long spears(not in schiltron formation) and warband in picts and viking (the nobles) fashion.
These photos show the charge of Galwegians (highlanders from Gallway).
The mocking Scots.
The chronicles of the time tell that the archers were to reject the charge of the Scots but, in my opinion, had not yet become deadly like subsequent wars.
My opinion is that the defeat of the Scots was the work of the militias but, above all, the Anglo-Norman foot knights.
King David, near his cavalry, sees his army smashed by Anglo-Normans.
