RAILROAD 2009
Once again, our club ran a public participation game at this show run by the Tame Valley Scouts. As the show is held just around the corner from where our club meets, it makes sense to attend & we usually find at least one person who turns up & shows interest in joining the club, so it's even more logical to go.
Turning to the game, because it's not specifically a wargames show (the clue's in the name of the show), we always run a very simple game (usually without infantry as this can slow things down) with basic terrain as what we're trying to do is show how simple & inexpensive wargaming can be. This year, we decided to do away with our terrain tiles & just use a green cloth, lengths of green coir matting for hedges (which we also sell) and, surprise, surprise, Armourfast tanks.
The rules are fairly simple & straightforward making for quick, fun games whether the players are used to wargaming or first timers.
The photos show the thrid of three of the games that we ran over the weekend; 'though during the one game, the Germans called in for some extra-terrestrial support!! As is our custom, now, each of the winners receives an Armourfast kit as a prize which will, hopefully, get them further interested in building their own & collecting more.
We also had a long conversation with a vet' who had been a driver of an Achilles in the immediate post-war period which was really interesting.
